The figure was forged from a wrought iron anchor salvaged from Camden Harbor, Maine.

This sculpture was welded up from small strips of bloom iron, inspired by some large pieces of African work I saw in Tom Joyce's "Striking Iron" exhibit. These African smiths created a brilliant approach to making large thin plates using a small fire and a hammer. This piece retains all the experiments and failures as I tried to puzzle out this method.

This is a solid figure built up from 5 small blooms.

This figure was built additively by forge-welding chunks of high-phosphorus bloom iron. (She's currently away on exhibit).

This sword/sculpture was the first result of our discovery of the "Aristotle" steel-making method, which you can read about over on the Smelting Research page. It bears many cracks and flaws that developed as I experimented with hardening and tempering this material.
