This piece, which weighs about 140 lbs, is built of 4 blooms welded together. It was the result of experiments I did with Michael McCarthy as we explored the techniques that might have been used to make large ancient objects, such as the Iron Pillar of Delhi.

Unlike most of the other sculptural swords, this one is actually hardened, tempered, and sharpened. It is a result of my experiments in the construction methods of early viking era swords, which you can read about over on the Smelting Research page ("A Different Method for Forging Sword Fullers).
